Betrayal and love, cowardice and flight – a sister stands by her brother

Lotte is nine when her family leaves Bavaria to go and live in Thuringia in 1960. Her father has taken a job as a zoo inspector there and no one suspects that only a few years later the border will be closed and East Germany disappear behind a wall. Erfurt Zoo seems to be a continuation of their perfect life, but son Bruno wants to return to freedom. And indeed, he manages to flee, but after that nothing is the same for his family. His father is arrested on charges of connivance, interrogated and sentenced. The mother goes to pieces as a result and Lotte, too, feels the full force of the state. It is not until forty years later that the lost brother returns to her life under tragic circumstances …
